Monique Silver

Monique Silver is an emerging artist from the Annapolis Valley. She completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts at Mount Allison University with a focus in painting and printmaking. Her interdisciplinary practice explores a diverse range of making. This involves various printmaking methods, acrylic paint, traditional drawing tools, and intricate needle work. Although she creates mixed-media works, Monique views her finished pieces as drawings.

She prefers to work large scale, playing with the contrast between realism and abstraction to portray the contemporary experiences of the human mind and body. More recently, her work explores the power of societal pressures and their effects on our mental stability. Informed by the practice of art therapy, her personal exposure to mental health disorders has driven her investigations.

Monique was accepted into the Visual Arts Nova Scotia (VANS) 2021 New Grad Program. A 14 week program designed to help recent visual arts graduates navigate the transition from full-time student to professional artist.
